I came into Sandy Acre Point to hide away from the effects of Storm Amy that was about to roll into the British Isles. I found a spot at the top end of the mooring field just into the entrance of the River Lynher at Sandy Acre Point. Avoiding a couple of wrecks marked on the chart and looking for the LAT of 3.5m minimum to allow for some room under the keel at low water.
Since I arrived last Thursday afternoon it has proved a suitable place with excellent holding in the mud, just enough room to swing to wind and tide without touching bottom, so far. We’re coming onto Springs so lower than usual tides expected.
Yesterday a chap rowed up to the boat and introduced himself as living in the old boat house by the Quay. He knew my boat from before my time and we chatted about some of its history and movements since. After a while he asked if I’d be interested in a vacant mooring. We’re now in discussion with the owner to agree a price over the winter months. Sandy Acre Point is sheltered and gives easy access up and down river for excursions when the weather is good. Depending on the costs, it’ll be a good place to be secure. Access to Saltash is relatively easy, just one & half mile walk - uphill…
It should also allow me to go see my friend in Calstock either by river or train.
